Bob Lord has been good at fundraising and could have a shot at this seat now that it is open.
The famous class of 94 loses its eighth Republican House member this session. Seven have announced their retirement: John Shadegg, Dave Weldon, Roger Wicker (appointed to Senate), Tom Davis, Jerry Weller, Barbara Cubin and Ray LaHood. Charlie Norwood of Georgia died during the session as did Craig Thomas, elected to the Senate in 1994.
Only 12 House members remain as Newt’s living legacy: George Radanovich of CA, Mark Souder of IN, Tom Latham of IA, Ed Whirfield of KY, Frank LoBiondo of NJ, Sue Myrick of NC, Steve Chabot of OH, Steven LaTourette of OH, Phil English of PA, Mac Thornberry of TX, Doc Hastings of WA, and Todd Tiahrt of KS. Brian Bilbray was defeated in 2000 and elected from a neighboring district in 2006.
By the end of this session, the Republlican class of 2006 will be bigger than its class of 1994 in the House (barring defeats in the general election).
I was bummed to find out Andrew Horne is dropping out of the Kentucky Senate race, but this makes me feel a lot better.
